After the railway track in use of C20-C24 stations of Kaohsiung Light Rail, the project continues to develop eastward. It is expected that the construction fences will start to be erected at the section of Dashun Road (from Bo-ai Road to Jhongjheng Road) from December 6, 2022 onwards. The reconstruction of box culverts, the reconstruction of Longhua Bridge and the main structure of the Light Rail will be processed as well. It is planned to be completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2023, accomplishing the goal of "All Light Rail Opened to Traffic."

The construction plan for the Dashun section (from Bo-ai Road to Jhongjheng Road) is divided into three parts according to the MRT Bureau's planning. The scope of each part and the construction fences set-up schedule are as follows:

  1. Area A: Dashun 1st Road "Bo-ai Road to Minzu Road:" from Dec. 6, 2022.
  2. Area B: Dashun 2nd Road from "Minzu Road to Jiouru Road:" from Dec. 12, 2022.
  3. Area C: Dashun 3rd Road "Jiouru Road to Jhongjheng Road:" from Jan. 3, 2023.

In order to reduce the traffic impact caused by the construction of the 2nd phase of the LRT project toward the eastern bound, Vice Mayor Lin Chin-Jung has called on the MRT Bureau, Transportation Bureau, Public Works Bureau, Water Resources Bureau, Traffic Police Corps of Police Department, Sanmin District Office, Lingya District Office, Zuoying District Office, Gushan District Office, the LRT construction team, etc. several times in advance to conduct inter-bureau coordination. He also instructed the city government team to learn from the previous cooperation and experience during the construction of Meishuguan Road and Dashun Road, which properly planned beforehand the construction schedule, traffic maintenance measures, diversion reminders, traffic police and volunteer deployment, parking planning information along the rail route and protection of Rain Tree/Saman planting conditions along the roads. Plus, the team should enhance the communication with local neighborhood representatives and community residents by explaining and delivering the construction messages. Meanwhile, the "Kaohsiung City Government Public Tree Pruning and Maintenance Consultation" will be held in the near future to properly protect the Rain Tree/Saman on the road dividers along Dashun Road and to reduce the impact on the surrounding traffic during the construction period.

The MRT Bureau said that during this period, the roadside parking spaces for automobiles and motorcycles will be eliminated along Dashun Road, and temporary parking bays for cars and buses will be set up to maintain two lanes of traffic in both directions, with the construction fences set up successively in phases. Additionally, in response to the heavy traffic flow from the south side of Dashun 1st Road, indicating from Bo-ai Road to Zihyou Road, moveable fences are planned to be set up in these areas of department stores and shopping malls during the New Year and Chinese New Year holidays. The construction fences will be retracted to the edge of the central road dividers before the Chinese New Year, and restore the original three widths in the eastbound direction. These fences will be restored to their originally planned locations after the holidays.

The MRT Bureau also said that the installation of the extensive rerouting signs has been set up and it plans to allocate traffic volunteers at the construction section intersections to guide the traffic flow. In addition, it will collaborate with the district offices to improve communication with local neighborhood representatives and the communities through leaflets to build good relationships. Meanwhile, through multiple media platforms (including PRS, related official websites, Facebook, official group on Line, etc.), it disseminates the construction information to the public, minimizing the traffic impact during the construction period!

The MRT Bureau especially appealed that the public pay attention to the construction information in advance to protect its safety. When passing through those construction sections, drivers shall reduce their speed to 30 km/h (the speed limit in the work zone) and follow the traffic signs. It is recommended that pedestrians/drivers make use of the nearby east-west alternative roads (Mingcheng Road, Tongmeng Road, Jiangong Road, Shihcyuan Road and Jiouru Road) and the north-south alternative roads (Bo-ai Road, Zihyou Road, Minzu Road and Dachang Road) to be diverted earlier in order to save on the traveling time.
