During summer vacation, all counties and cities had heartily introduced various types of tourist promotion to stimulate domestic travel. Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail (KCLR) and KMRT also cooperated with the marketing measures of Kaohsiung City Government. Besides various tour packages and discount price—10 NT dollars for KCLR passengers, KMRT also launched the best ever price reduction of a 90-day effective ticket to attract more customers in order to boost its passenger capacity.

According to the statistics of KMRT, KCLR’s daily traffic volume has sharply rebounded to 8,495 people in August from less than 2,000 people during the COVID-19 outbreak. This traffic volume was near 9,167 people of annual average daily traffic last year. By the end of August, the passengers reached over 10 million and up to 11.72 million since KCLR was open to the public. More, KMRT resumed its passenger capacity to 145,000 passengers in August. Although the number of KMRT passengers is still about 19.9% lower than last August, its whole passenger volume has grown for 3 consecutive months. The stores near Great Harbor Rotating Bridge, Pier 2, and KW2 can clearly sense that KCLR has brought the long-lost business opportunities back during summer vacation. Especially, many distinctive attractions around Asia’s New Bay Area are linked to KCLR. Next, the Kaohsiung Music Center is going to be open at the end of this year, and KCLR will be the best option to arrive there.

KMRT Bureau said that in terms of the increase of KMRT and KCLR passenger volume, except for the diverse discount schemes of Kaohsiung City Government and KMRT Bureau and tourist season of summer vacation, more importantly, KCLR has collaborated with CECC’s epidemic policies to strictly follow the protective anti-epidemic measures. For instance, KMRT installed infrared thermometers and has frequently disinfected the facilities. Recently, in compliance with guidelines announced by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC), passengers are required to wear a face mask when taking MRT. Therefore, Kaohsiung MRT adds 76 new face mask vending machines at each station. The high cost of anti-epidemic measures has made the public and the tourists restore their confidence in public transportation. At last, KMRT Bureau encourages commuters and visitors to take KCLR and KMRT as best as they can. In fact, right now, KCLR and KMRT are the fastest, safest, and most convenient means of mass transportation in Kaohsiung City.
