The nine-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025 has once again brought record-breaking ridership to the Kaohsiung Light Rail! From the first to the third day of the New Year, daily passenger counts have exceeded 90,000, reinforcing the light rail’s status as the preferred choice for holiday travel, whether for family visits, festive outings, or leisurely city explorations.

As the 2025 Kaohsiung Wonderland takes center stage at Love River Bay, Kaohsiung Light Rail has launched a special Lunar New Year transport plan to accommodate the surge in passenger demand during the New Year and Lantern Festival period. During peak hours on high-traffic days, additional trains and shuttle services (C1 Lizihnei to C14 Hamasen) will be added as needed, ensuring a convenient and efficient 8-minute frequency for visitors traveling throughout Kaohsiung.

During the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival, many people embark on a zou chun (走春) or “spring walk” — meaning to take a walk to make courtesy calls to relatives and friends or visit temples and scenic spots. This year, the Kaohsiung Light Rail’s “Five Blessings” Painted Stations, spanning C25 Sinshang Elementary School Station to C29 Shu-Te Home-Economics & Commercial High School Station, bring festive joy to life through vibrant artistic expressions. We invite you to explore these beautifully designed stations with family and friends, immersing yourselves in a unique celebration of culture and creativity. These stations are more than just transit hubs; they serve as cultural landmarks, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of Kaohsiung. Designed exclusively by renowned local artist Lin Hsi-Chun, the “Five Blessings” theme—Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, Happiness, and Wealth—comes to life through intricate geometric patterns and abstract imagery. Every waiting moment is infused with hope and well wishes, making your journey through the city even more meaningful.

Each Five Blessings Painted Station features a unique animal symbol, representing different aspects of good fortune. At C25 Sinshang Elementary School Station, the bat symbolizes good fortune, bringing continuous luck. At C26 Dashun Minzu Station, the deer represents prosperity, offering blessings of wealth and abundance. At C27 Wanzihnei Station, the crane, with its graceful stance, signifies longevity, embodying wishes for a long and fulfilling life. At C28 Kaohsiung Industrial High School Station, the magpie represents happiness, spreading joy and positivity. Finally, at C29 Shu-Te Home-Economics & Commercial High School Station, the cat symbolizes wealth, inviting prosperity and financial success. From the very start of construction, the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau envisioned these stations as more than just transit hubs. They were designed to infuse Kaohsiung’s unique charm into every passenger’s journey, planting seeds of happiness along the way. This creative design not only brings a vibrant visual aesthetic but also allows each passerby to find personal resonance within these symbols of luck and well-being.

Whether you’re reuniting with family or celebrating with friends, the Kaohsiung Light Rail offers a seamless and convenient way to experience the festive season. With an array of exciting events, performances, and attractions along the route, it is the perfect choice for your New Year’s travels in the city. The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau warmly invites everyone to hop on the Kaohsiung Light Rail, immerse in the city’s vibrant Lunar New Year atmosphere, and together, welcome a bright and prosperous year ahead!
