The Kaohsiung Metro continues to make progress toward its goal to launch RK1 trial operation by the end of June this year. The RK1 Gangshan Station is in the final stage of construction, including dynamic testing for the train, train testing for signal system and functional testing for various sub-systems; all of these tests have begun and are continuing. The power supply system completed high-voltage transmission and high-voltage equipment pressurization in the early morning on February 23rd. On March 8th, the power connection to the operation and control center was completed. The power supply for RK1 is now ready for operation. The high-voltage power supply for RK1 station has completed the electrical and mechanical testing by Taipower. It was done at night during non-operating hours in order to avoid interfering with the operation of the MRT stations. The engineering team will continue to carry out various tests actively after the power has been transmitted. The test items include the electrical and mechanical low-voltage equipment, power and control system, in order to successfully meet the goal to launch the RK1 by the end of June.

The power supply for the RK1 station in the first phase of the Gangshan Lujhu Extension Line is operated by the Kaohsiung Metro BSS5. It is connected to the existing power supply system through the North Depot of the Metro Red and Orange lines to provide the traction power needed for the trains in RK1 Gangshan Station to operate. The 22kV power supply system is converted to low voltage 380V/220V through an auxiliary transformer to supply power to the station facilities. In the future, the BSS7 will be completed and operated in the second phase of the Gangshan Lujhu Extension Line, which is currently under construction. By adding BSS7 to the system, the Metro's power resilience, overall reliability and safety will be greatly improved.
