The Kaohsiung Metro is delivering good news! The Ministry of Transportation and Communications has released the results of its annual control plan evaluation for 2022. The central government has given the Kaohsiung Metro Red and Orange Line Network Construction Plan, Gangshan-Lujhu Extension Line (Phase 1), Gangshan-Lujhu Extension Line (Phase 2A), and Metropolitan Line (Yellow Line) Construction Plan an A for their promotion and implementation performance. According to the Mass Rapid Transit Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, the city government's unwavering policy objective has been to continue promoting the construction of the mass rapid transit system. Under Mayor Chen Chi-mai's expectation of accelerating the simultaneous launch of the four-line Kaohsiung Metro network, the construction team has made every effort to shorten and reduce the inconvenience of public transportation during the construction period. Upon completion of construction and opening to traffic, it is anticipated that the rail track construction and various public transportation systems will form a dense network, making the city's public transportation more convenient for the public.

  • Kaohsiung Metro Red and Orange Line: In conjunction with the subsequent undergrounding of the Kaohsiung Railway, Kaohsiung Station's Phase 2 construction will continue construction on the permanent R11 station and Taiwan Railway interfacing construction. The cooperative performance has been satisfactory and meet the service requirements of passengers transferring between the Metro and Taiwan Railway.
  • Metro Gangshan-Lujhu Extension Line (Phase 1 and Phase 2A): Extending from Metro Red Line R24 Station to Hunei District, this line serves Gangshan, Lujhu, Hunei, and other Greater Gangshan neighborhoods. In addition, it is a significant component of the “Southern Semiconductor S Corridor.” In Phase 1 (RK1), the Metro Red Line R24 Station end rail connection construction and the construction operation of the elevated station section are currently underway, with completion and opening to traffic scheduled for mid-2024. The Phase 2A (RK2-RK6) civil engineering construction began onsite in January 2023, and it is scheduled to be completed and the RK6 Lujhu South Station open to traffic by 2027.
  • Metro Yellow Line: The third underground metro for the Kaohsiung metropolitan area, after the Metro Red Line and Metro Orange Line, combines the Kaohsiung Metro Red and Orange Line and circular light rail to create a new phase of public transportation-oriented seamless transportation for the city. Currently, contract signing for the electromechanical bid and the track bid will conclude in October 2022 and April 2023, respectively. Detailed procedures are currently being carried out.
