R24 Gangshan South
The MRT system provides comfortable and rapid transportation services for the people in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City. With the support of the Gangshan-Luzhu MRT Extension in the future, the MRT line will be an extension of the axis to the north of Kaohsiung City. It will connect the Kaohsiung Science Park and other industry zones along the line to facilitate the overall economic development of the Greater Kaohsiung Area.
Planning ideas and overall benefits:
- Plane and section of the curve: The station is a function-based building with the plane and section of the curve to present an image of speed, safety, soft vision, and smooth movement of crowds of the MRT system.
- Natural light, shading and ventilation design: The ceiling in the hall on the concourse level is elevated by two stories to provide better vision and outflow of hot air from above. Horizontal and vertical sunshade boards are designed for both skylighting and shading. Natural ventilation is ensured by opening the windows for convection and facilitates the achievement of the energy-saving and carbon-reduction goals.
- Natural ventilation is designed in the public area of the station to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The CFD simulation of natural ventilation was conducted at the planning and design phase to ensure providing passengers a comfortable indoor environment in summer.
- The monsoon blowing in the summer through the trees at the entrance square in the front of the station cools the air that flows from the entrance all the way to the hall on the concourse level.
