(I) Conceptual Ideals of Design in Interior Decoration:

  1. Flooring: With the pillar module as the cutting reference, the public area is paved with light-colored quarry tiles of 300 x 300mm. The trimming sections and the parts not paved with a complete tile are constructed with granite. The flooring at the station management office, stair, escalator, entrance/exit gate, and barrier gate is trimmed with granite. The same material of different colors is applied to the flooring in front of the platform gate to highlight its location and serve as a guide. The flooring in the public area is constructed with a parquetry design to express the thematic image of the station.
  2. Ceiling: Light-colored metal ceiling of 600 x 1200mm is designed for the public area. The material is cut with the pillar module of the station as a reference. Reinforced metal ceilings are used around the public stairs and escalators. They are specially styled and elevated locally with gradient color and lighting effects to give passengers a guide in vision and routing.
  3. Wall surface: Granite is used for the part below 800mm while light-colored enameled steel sheets are used for the part above 800mm. The material is cut in line with the flooring and ceiling pillar of the station. Spaces for signboards and public art walls are reserved according to the locations indicated in the functional design standard drawing for civil engineering works and the public art planning report.

(II) Conceptual Ideals of Design in Interior Lighting:

Lamps are set up evenly in line with the interior decoration modules. The lighting is enhanced along the route for the movement of the passengers.

  1. Areas with enhanced lighting: The lighting is enhanced in the areas around the ticket vending machine, entrance and exit gates, PAO, and the space above the vertical route to ensure the lighting function.
  2. Lighting methods:

    (1) Indirect lighting: Used for public arts, signboards, information boards in the spaces above the side wall of the public area.

    (2) Direct lighting: Used for the spaces above the ticket vending machine, entrance and exit gates, PAO, vertical route, and public passage.

    (3) Lamp: Fluorescent lamps are used in the public area with auxiliary embedded lights. They are set up in an equal distance if possible.

(III) Conceptual Ideals of Design in Entrance Vent Shafts, cooling towers, and Protrusions on the Ground:

  1. Style: Derived from the essence in the basic design of the exit, meaningful conversion and recombination of the horizontal wave images are performed to reflect the vitality and vigor of Kaohsiung as an ocean city and indicate that the Martial Arts Stadium Station is a special stop along the Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line.
  2. Environmental context:

    (1) Entrance A is integrated in alignment with the mass of Shaft X and becomes parallel to the road to mitigate the visual impact with the adaptive design of the light box and large signboard. If needed in the future, they can be used to show the information on the events held in the sports park.

    (2) At Entrance B and Entrance C, a landscape with an oval-shaped open atrium is designed as the visual center. In consideration of the crowds during the events held in the sports park, the entrances lead to the Ocean Sports Cultural Sculpture Plaza to create a corresponding energetic image of the sports park.

    (3) Shaft Y is located at the greenbelt on the approach to the Zhongzhen Interchange. It is an upcast shaft in design to “reduce the volume,” mitigate the impact on the traffic around the shaft, and merge the surroundings.

  3. Material: A sense of modern MRT technology is demonstrated by combining the mass of the face bricks and granite materials with the light weight of the structure steel, baking enamel steel plates, and tempered glass.
  4. Color: The protrusions on the ground are cream-colored in line with the design of the Martial Arts Stadium. The line color is expressed on the gate frame at the entrance and the flange at the end.
  5. Lighting: In addition to meeting the basic functional requirements, a sense of briskness with gradient effect on the facade is offset by lighting the changing curves of the building mass to create a unique night atmosphere in the surroundings.
