The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit System RLM01-bid Electromechanical system (including the Utilities Dispatching Center) turnkey project includes the construction of the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), power supply system, signal system, communication system, automatic toll collection system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and platform door system and Electrical Substation (BSS 9) necessary for the operations of the seven stations of RL1-RL7 on the Siaogang Linyuan Line (underground stations: 6 sets; elevation stations: 1 set). On October 31, 2022, the call for bids went live on the internet; it will close on December 9, 2022, and the bidding process will begin on December 12, 2022.

There are approximately 340,000 round trips between Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County daily. Citizens in Siaogang and Linyuan areas expect that the MRT construction will promote local prosperity, achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction, and boost the overall efficiency of rail transportation and regional development potential.

The starting point of the line is connected to the tail rail of the Siaogang R3 Underground Station on the Kaohsiung Red Line, and the underground tunnel continues to extend to the south, passing through Yanhai 2nd Road, Yanhai 3rd Road, Jhongmen Road, Section 4 of Yanhai Road – Section 2 of Yanhai Road, with the RL6 Underground Station built on the land designated for No. 11 Park south of Linyuan. After the station , it ascends coming out along Linyuan South Road and connects the corridor to the south side corridor of Lane 73, Section 1 of Yanhai Road. From the top, it transcends Jhongyun Drainage Ditch and continues to climb until reaching the end point at the RL7 Elevated Station before the high-value industrial park. The line has a total length of approximately 11.27 kilometers (excluding the 340 meters reserved for the red line). It is connected with the existing red and orange lines and the extension line of Gangshan Road and Lujhu Road. The operation method of “one train all the way ” is adopted, which is compatible with the mechanical and electric systems of the existing red and orange line; the depot is shared with the existing red and orange line, providing the convenient public transportation services to city residents from the Siaogang and Linyuan areas.
