Mayor Chen instructed Deputy Mayor Lin to invite the Transport Bureau, the MRT Bureau, the Urban Development Bureau, the Public Works Bureau, the Water Resources Bureau, the Civil Affairs Bureau, the Health Bureau, professional consulting companies, and the teams of contractors to actively develop the Light Rail optimization schemes as soon as he took office. They put forward 9 optimized adjustment schemes and 2 administrative supporting measures to communicate with the line-side residents. After nearly two months of scientific simulation and analysis of noise and traffic dynamics, the results were positive. Last week, Kaohsiung City Government published a series of polls and related surveys. They showed that more than 70% of the public and residents supported to resume Kaohsiung Light Rail. On Tuesday, Mayor Chen Chi-Mai (陳其邁) also officially announced that the second phase of Kaohsiung Light Rail is to resume at Meishuguan Rd. and Dashun Rd.

The MRT Bureau said that all parties were willing to rationally discuss the public policies. During the process of communication, the city team also listened to the suggestions from the line-side residents to optimize the programs. It eventually got the support of the majority of the people. Chung-Hwa School of Arts, which had different views on Kaohsiung Light Rail programs, removed the protest banner at 9:00 a.m. this morning (November 13). It is evident that all walks of life gradually accept optimized schemes. Kaohsiung City Government also expects that Kaohsiung Light Rail will be completed as soon as possible to make the mass transit network perfect. Follow-up will accelerate the promotion of Kaohsiung Light Rail resumption plans. It is hoped to make Kaohsiung’s public transportation better and more convenient, with a view to driving our city’s prosperity and development.
