To create an esthetic form for KMRT stations and surrounding landscape, the architecture and landscape of KMRT station will be merged with
environmental elements including the historic background, cultural character and future development of the area. For the design issues, there were three symposiums inviting well-known architects, architect unions, real estate unions, committee members of urban design and cultural researchers. Following the conclusions of symposiums, we developed the strategies and guidelines of station design and public art. To achieve the image of Ocean Capital for Kaohsiung, the architectural form of KMRT facilities will integrate with the surroundings and create a particular expression for the people.
The plan, of O2 station with Ta-Yung Rd pedestrian district:
To revitalize the Yen-Cheng district to offer more convenient shopping and leisure, merge with the surroundings and develop the tourism and commercial activities, we planned the Ta-Yung Rd to the pedestrian district with the O2 station. A public committee made a survey of residents to assert their understanding of the feasibility of this project on 31/01/2000 and most of the people agreed with this idea. As a result, the KRTC will continue in the design of this project.
We chose 8 stations as "Special Stations" shown in the contract, where the architecture and landscape and public art should be designed specially
and individually. These 8 stations are O9, O5/R10, R4, R8, R9, R11, R17 and R23, which are located beside the important urban connection and will be used by lots of passengers. KRTC should communicate with the local residents before design the O1 and O2 stations so that the surroundings are full of cultural and oriental characteristics. We will create the characteristics of KMRT stations in accordance with the policy and review of public input. |
